The University of Manchester opened its first overseas centre to cover the East Asia Region in Hong Kong in 1992. The East Asia centre is ideally located in Hong Kong, which is the strategic position for numerous multinational corporations entering the Chinese market. Hong Kong is the financial and educational hub of East Asia covering South China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. The centre is located in a Grade A building in one of Hong Kong’s prime business districts, which is in line with our global aspirations and our dedication to nurturing new generations of business stars. We are the only UK institution in Hong Kong to have a centre with its own staff, teaching facilities and student support.
We also boast 400 active student, with a further 3500 alumni in Hong Kong and 9,500 in the region. The alumni group in Hong Kong is one of MBS's most active with numerous activities throughout the year. Recent activities included the Top Fund Raiser Award, Guinness World record of Tallest cup cake tower, prominent alumni and industry leaders seminar series, professional development seminars with professional institutions; and various types of networking opportunities such as joint alumni association events, cross border visits and alumni annual dinners. Our alumni group work closely with our students, many of whom mentor students during their time on the MBA.
During this time we have also developed excellent relationships with the region's professionals such as wealth managers, bankers, accountants and marketers. We also have strong partnerships with the local branches of professional bodies such as ACCA, CPA Australia, CIMA, and CMA etc.
